As one of the leading spiral wound gasket manufacturers, we have 5 types of spiral wound metallic gaskets:
- JSG-SW10: R Type Spiral Wound Gasket
- JSG-SW20: CGI Type Spiral Wound Gasket
- JSG-SW30: CG Type Spiral Wound Gasket
- JSG-SW40: RIR Type Spiral Wound Gasket
- JSG-SWH: Spiral Wound Gasket for heat exchangers
- JSG-SWC: Customized Spiral Wound Gasket
R Type Spiral Wound Gasket(Basic Type)
- Item no.: JSG – SW10
- SWG with only filler and winding (sealing element only), suitable for high pressure and temperature applications for TG/male/ female flange.
- For example: SS304/FG.
Spiral wound gasket type R is the basic style industrial gasket, its inner and outer diameter requires a minimum of three plies and a maximum of five plies of preformed stainless steel strip without filler, which provides greater stability and better compression characteristics. The outer windings shall be spot welded circumferentially with a minimum of three welds or a maximum space between spot welds of 76mm when the gasket’s dimension increases.
- Item no.: JSG – SW20,
- CGI spiral wound gasket with inner ring and outer ring, for raised & flat face flange.
For example: SS304/SS304+FG/CS spiral wound gaskets CGI are supplied with an external and an internal ring that is suitable for use on flat face and raised face flanges and can be especially for high pressure or temperature environments or where corrosive or toxic media exists. The inner ring gives the gasket a greater resistance to thermal shock and prevents the filler material from being sucked in when in the case of vacuum services as well as gives an additional compression limiting stop and prevents inward buckling ring. Always the inner ring’s material is typically the same as the winding material but can be provided in other materials depending on the services.
- Item no.: JSG – SW30
- SWG with only outer ring, for raised / flat face flange
- For example: SS304/FG CS Gasket
Ginseal provides CG type spirotallic gasket (with only outer ring). These spiral wound flange gaskets are proved to be suitable in most applications, and allow lower clamping forces than solid gaskets, albeit with a higher cost.
The spiral wound gasket copes with an outer ring made from stainless steel, carbon steel or other material like Duplex, Monel or Nickel are always for applications of raised face flanges. The outer ring works as a center ring that fix the gasket on the flange faces by providing the blow-out resistance of the windings as well as works as a compression stop. The CG spiral wound is a good general-purpose gasket and suitable for use with a flat face and raised face flanges.
- Item no.: JSG – SW40
- SWG with only inner ring &. without the outer ring, it’s suitable for the male and female flange.
RIR type spiral wound gasket with inner ring and without outer ring is mainly used in the male and female flange. The solid inner ring acts as a compression stop and fills the annular space between the flange bore and the inside diameter. It’s designed for use on a heat exchanger where the sealing area is limited. The inner ring’s use can prevent accumulations of solids as well as reduce the turbulent flow of process fluids and minimize erosion of flange faces.
- Item no.: JSG – SWH
- Spiral Wound Gasket for heat exchanger.
For Example SS304/FG with 1 bar of Double Jacketed. Ginseal H type spiral wound gasket is a kind of heat exchanger spiral wound gasket which is created for heat exchangers, It’s same with common spiral wound gaskets in structural type except that barrettes(bar) are required and the bars/ribs are securely fastened to the ID of the gasket. Always the barrettes are always double jacketed type or kammprofile type in the same material of windings and fillers.
H type spiral wounds can also be equipped with an external ring and an internal ring to provide better stability but kindly refer to Ginseal technical team for the use of applications.

How To Choose Filler
The important part is the sealing element (also called spiral wound gasket filler) made up of V-formed SS strip and non- metallic filling tape, the material can be changed according to different chemical compatibility requirements.
- Spiral wound gasket graphite filler strip is good to be used in a high-temperature environment,
- PTFE Spiral wound gasket filling strip is for acids and another corrosive medium.
- Spiral wound gasket non-asbestos’ use is increased when the health problems with asbestos became known. But it’s only recommended for low temperature less severe applications due to the rubber content.
- Ceramic is for extremely high-temperature applications. The filler is not so common as it cannot achieve the same leak tightness as graphite

Ceramic | CER | -212 | +1100 | – | Light Green |
Flexible Graphite | F.G. | -196 | +600 | 300 | Grey |

Packaging & Shipping:
Ginseal Spiral wound gaskets are the ideal gaskets in the semi-metallic gasket for different environments.
The spiral wound metallic gaskets can be used in gas turbines, abrasive media, nitric acid service, hydrofluoric. Slurry pumps, ASME B16.20 flanges, ASME B16.5 flanges, ANSI BS 1650, steam services, tongue and groove flanges, heat exchangers, chemical processing and etc.
A V-shaped metal hoop works as spring providing structural support. According to different service environments and different flanges, spiral wound gaskets are always supplied in different materials and types.
Spiral wound gaskets are extremely widely used many applications and there exist a variety of styles and sizes. Ginseal has heat exchanger spiral wound gaskets, customized oval spiral wound gaskets, and kamprofile/spiral wound gaskets and dimensions that can be customized or according to the standard of ASME B16.20, JIS, DIN, BS 3381, BS EN 1514-2 and etc.
They are easiest to install and suitable for the equipment in which the gasket suffers extreme temperature or pressure cycling, shock, or vibration. Even when the spiral wounds’ sealing faces are slightly corroded or bent they can also provide stability and scalability due to their solid constructions.
